There was a time when people could find… or buy… online success without investing in great content. Search engines and banner ads where pretty much the only game in town, and exploiting SEO loopholes meant you could send lots of traffic to mediocre landing pages and generate enough sales/ signups/ad-impressions to make “online marketing” work.
Thankfully, those days are gone!
The search engines’ relentless quest for relevance, and the inexorable rise of social media and social sharing, means that today we can’t buy attention, we have to earn it — and the way to earn it is to thrill, delight, entertain, help and inform.

Much of the experience and knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years became part of the internationally acclaimed book “Understanding Digital Marketing – marketing strategies for engaging the digital generation”, (co-authored with Damian Ryan) published by Kogan Page in the UK, the US and India, translated into several languages and available worldwide.
I co-authored the first two editions before moving on to pursue other projects. The book is currently in its third edition.
My second book — “The Best Digital Marketing Campaigns in the World”, also published by Kogan Page — is packed full of global case studies showing how brands and businesses are harnessing the power of digital channels to connect and engage with customers around the world.
